Pei-Ying Lee
Pei Ying graduated from Bachelor of Optometry at the University of Melbourne. She worked in clinical practice full time before she joined Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA) in 2015. She was a research optometrist in the National Eye Health Survey (NEHS), the first nationwide population-based study into the prevalence and causes of vision loss in non-Indigenous and Indigenous Australians. Following the completion of the survey, she joined the team at WHO Collaborating Centre for the Prevention of Blindness at CERA, where she was involved in the customisation of an automated grading system for eye diseases using artificial intelligence. She is now a PhD candidate under the supervision of A/Prof Bang Bui at the Department, working on understanding the stress-sensing mechanism of retinal ganglion cells following elevated intraocular pressure.
