Elaine Chong
Dr. Elaine Chong is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with dual fellowship in training in cataract, corneal and medical retina. She completed her first fellowship in Medical Retina at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) followed by Corneal, External disease and Refractive Surgery fellowship at the Singapore National Eye Centre. As a result of her double sub-specialties, Elaine is highly trained in challenging cases of cataract surgery. She has performed over 3000 cataract surgeries. Dr Chong is currently a consultant opthalmologist in both corneal and medical retina units at the RVEEH and RMH.
Dr Chong also holds a PhD and Masters of Epidemiology from the University of Melbourne. She continues to have a strong presence in clinical research at the Centre of Eye Research Australia. She has over 30 peer-reviewed publications and has written 2 book chapters. Her recent work on Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) was awarded the Best Surgical Video at the RANZCO conference in 2016. Elaine is currently investigating a new surgical technique of Descemets stripping only in patients with Fuch's endothelial dystrophy.
Dr Chong speaks both English and Mandarin. In her spare time she enjoys badminton, boxing and jogging. Elaine is a big foodies and likes to spend time with her husband and two little girls.
